The students of Class 5A and B of St. Aloysius English Medium School, Urwa, hosted a meaningful Gandhi Jayanthi celebration on 2nd October 2024, commemorating the 155th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and honoring Lal Bahadur Shastri on his jayanthi.
The program began with a prayer service, offering a tribute to the two great leaders. Rinshi Aliza Saldanha served as the Master of Ceremonies, guiding the event with grace. The welcome speech was delivered by Shawn Ronal Francis, setting a reflective tone for the occasion.
The students then sang the hymn “Make Me a Channel of Your Peace,” reflecting Gandhi’s values of peace and harmony. A famous slogan like “Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan” and quotes such as “Be the change that you wish to see in the world” were read aloud by the students, emphasizing Gandhi’s lasting influence on society.
Alisha and Esha read the significance of the day, explaining the importance of celebrating both Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri, highlighting their contributions to the nation. A beautiful dance performance was presented as a tribute to Gandhi.
As a tribute to the leaders Headmaster Aloysius Dsouza and Teachers offered flowers to the portraits of Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri as a sign of respect.
A special feature of the event was Yogeshwaran, who dressed as Mahatma Gandhi and showcased the charkha (spinning wheel), symbolizing Gandhi’s emphasis on self-reliance and simplicity.
The headmaster, Aloysius Dsouza, delivered an inspiring message, urging students to embrace the principles of truth, nonviolence, and unity, which were the foundation of Gandhi’s life and work. The event concluded with the singing of the National Anthem, after which sweets were distributed to the children in celebration of the occasion.
Samarth K concluded the program with a Vote of Thanks, expressing gratitude to all participants and contributors. The celebration was a thoughtful and heartfelt tribute to the enduring legacy of Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri.
